Bing Wengu was transported from a zombie world to an ancient one. At first glance, this lush and verdant world seemed perfect, especially the young man from the same village, Nan Jinping, who appeared even more so.
As a single man for 220 years, Bing Wengu’s desire for a wife had evolved from mere dreams to a willingness to risk his life.
However, his mother said, “Son, our family is too poor; we can’t afford to support a wife!”
His younger brother said, “Brother, if you marry, I won’t be able to. We only have enough money for one marriage.”
Nan Jinping’s mother warned, “Jinping, you cannot marry, you’ll starve over there.”
His father added, “Jinping, marrying him means less work at home where at least you won’t starve. Your brothers are not heartless; their children will take care of you in old age.”
Villagers commented, “Bing Wengu’s family is so poor, how could they afford to feed a husband? It’s just wishful thinking.”
Others chimed in, “Even if Nan Jinping is a bit ugly or infertile, he’s not stupid enough to marry Bing Wengu!”
Facing such poverty that words couldn’t describe it, Nan Jinping declared, “I will marry!”
Everyone thought Bing Wengu too poor to even host a wedding banquet but saw him repairing his house and preparing ten meat dishes and ten vegetarian dishes for the feast, symbolizing perfection.
Villagers expected Bing Wengu to sink into debt and Nan Jinping to struggle under the weight of repayment. Instead, the Bing family did not let Nan Jinping lift a finger, treating him like royalty!
No other maiden or young husband in the village lived such a life without labor, causing envy among villagers whose eyes nearly bled with jealousy.
They speculated, “The Bings must fear Nan Jinping might leave because they’re so poor, thus not letting him do any work!”
This turned into sleepless nights filled with envy, wishing for similar treatment.
When Bing Wengu disappeared, rumors spread that he fled due to debts, predicting hard times ahead for Nan Jinping. However, Bing returned with carts full of silk fabrics, becoming the wealthiest person in the village overnight.
Villagers then grumbled that wealth meant nothing without power, otherwise, it merely served those in authority.
Subsequently, Bing Wengu passed examinations to become a scholar, a candidate, and eventually topped the imperial exams, becoming a county magistrate. He rose through ranks to become a governor, a minister, a marquis, and finally, a royal tutor.
Contrary to predictions of hardship, Nan Jinping was cherished by Bing Wengu all his life, living in luxury.
Even the emperor knew Bing Wengu had a beloved husband no one else could touch, for he was Bing Wengu’s most sensitive spot.
