Chapter 46: The Married Beta Gets Approached
After their discussion, Chen Xun instructed the long-haired omega beside him to open a rectangular black box and place it on the table's center. Inside lay tobacco leaves. "I just got my hands on some Gurkha Black Dragons—let's give them a try."
Gurkha Black Dragon is among the finest and most expensive cigars, its tobacco leaves fermented for five years, with an annual production of only one hundred boxes. When lit, it releases aromas of malt and fruitwood.
The long-haired omega by Chen Xun's side and the other omegas present began taking tobacco from the box.
Situ Jing turned to Bai Yu, "You should learn how to roll a cigar too."
Bai Yu reached for a tobacco leaf, observing the long-haired omega's technique before attempting it himself.
After rolling the tobacco, Bai Yu noticed the long-haired omega licking the end of the cigar to seal it. Hesitating for a moment, he mimicked the action, extending his tongue to the tobacco's tip; a hint of fruitwood flavor permeated his tongue.
Bai Yu examined his self-rolled cigar—it was somewhat thicker than the others'—but he handed it to Situ Jing nonetheless.
Situ Jing said nothing, taking it into his mouth. Bai Yu picked up the lighter from the table and lit it for him.
Chen Xun cast a glance at Bai Yu, then gave Situ Jing a knowing smile. "So well-behaved—when did you acquire him? We had no idea."
Situ Jing replied indifferently, "He only looks well-behaved."
Bai Yu felt a pang of guilt. Months ago, he had accidentally caused Situ Jing a nosebleed, and the memory of him drenched and with red arms during the cat rescue was still vivid.
Compared to the other omegas seated around, he was probably the most troublesome.
But then again, Situ Jing could be quite difficult himself.
Situ Jing pointed at Chen Xun and said to Bai Yu, "Aren’t you passionate about your music? This is Chen Xun, the CEO of Starry Entertainment. You could work with him in the future."
Starry Entertainment is one of the largest entertainment companies in the country, boasting countless popular artists under Chen Xun's management. Even a novice with no inherent talent could achieve recognition through careful branding and systematic training at Starry Entertainment.
Bai Yu immediately rose and bowed respectfully to Chen Xun. "President Chen."
Understanding Situ Jing’s implication, Chen Xun waved at Bai Yu with a smile. "Sit, no need to stand."
Bai Yu resumed his seat. Situ Jing reached back, wrapping an arm around his shoulders. "Let him hear your music arrangements."
The other accompanying omegas watched Bai Yu, their gazes a mix of envy and mockery.
Bai Yu opened the arrangement file on his phone and handed it to Chen Xun.
Chen Xun took a puff of his cigar, listened with his head tilted, then returned the phone to Bai Yu. "It's good, but your music isn't very commercial. If you're interested in releasing an album, I can help. I assume you're not considering becoming a celebrity for now?"
Bai Yu shook his head. "I just want to focus on making music for now. My course load is quite heavy."
"Still in college? That's excellent." Chen Xun tapped his cigar into the amber ashtray on the table. "Being a music producer is also a great path. Selling music rights can generate quick income and is relatively easy."
"Indeed."
Bai Yu didn't genuinely believe that this encounter with Chen Xun would automatically open doors to such opportunities.
Situ Jing wasn't truly concerned about his future; he was merely acting out of competitive pride, wanting to prove his superiority to Qin Shaoxin in every aspect—a typical alpha's desire for dominance.
Once their contract ended, Bai Yu simply wanted to keep as much distance as possible, avoiding any connection to Situ Jing or his circle.
As they smoked and savored the premium cigars, the door opened and a new man entered.
The newcomer was dressed in a white suit, smiling warmly, with slightly curly hair.
Bai Yu recognized him; his name was Mu Ga, a renowned figure in the music industry from years past, with two or three songs that had become anthems for a generation. However, in recent years, he had ventured into the cosmetics brand business. He was likely Mu Qingkong's uncle.
"I happened to have some business here and heard you were around, A-Jing," Mu Ga said, using a familiar form of address, "so I thought I'd drop by." As he spoke, Mu Ga glanced at Bai Yu, then took a seat on a small sofa, engaging in cheerful conversation.
Situ Jing's expression remained indifferent; he spoke little, only occasionally nodding in response.
Listening to them discuss intricate relationships and business matters while clouding the air with smoke, Bai Yu felt suffocated. He whispered to Situ Jing, "I want to step out for some fresh air."
Situ Jing nodded. "Don't stay outside too long."
"Yeah." Bai Yu slipped out, numerous eyes from the private room following him until the thick soundproof door closed behind him.
Chen Xun mimicked Situ Jing in a mocking tone, "Don't stay outside too long~"
Situ Jing shot him a glare. "Do you not want the Lanting office building anymore?"
"Of course I do, how could I not?"
Chen Xun simply found it outrageous that Situ Jing, who had remained solitary for years due to his pheromone condition, had quietly found a treasure without telling his childhood friend.
But it was also understandable—after all, he was a jerk.

Bai Yu walked out of the private room, made his way through the corridor to the main hall, where a performance area was located. A magic show was currently underway, with a small number of guests seated and watching.
"How long have you been with Mr. Situ?"
Hearing the voice, Bai Yu turned and saw the long-haired omega from the private room. "Not long."
The long-haired omega crossed his arms, scrutinizing Bai Yu from head to toe, and curled his lip. "I'm the headliner of this club, Xiao Nai. That poster over there is me. I've spent time with Mr. Situ before."
On the far wall of the hall hung six large posters, with Xiao Nai featured prominently in the first one—long hair flowing, smiling sweetly, with flawless features and figure.
Bai Yu replied calmly, "Oh."
Xiao Nai said, "An alpha like Mr. Situ would never be satisfied with a bland, inexperienced partner like you."
Bai Yu nodded in agreement. "Probably not."
Xiao Nai felt the person before him was like a pillow—unusually soft, impossible to provoke no matter how he attacked. Instead, it took the wind out of his sails, and he ended up watching the magic show for a while.
After two minutes, Xiao Nai moved closer to Bai Yu and asked in a low voice, "You've slept with Mr. Situ, haven't you? I can tell. What was it like?"
Startled by Xiao Nai’s bluntness, Bai Yu stepped back. "Sorry, I can't tell you. I don't understand his thoughts, so I can't give you advice. But he's really... he definitely needs several partners around. You could give it a try."
Xiao Nai couldn't hide his look of shock and jealousy as he scrutinized Bai Yu carefully.
He wouldn't dare try. Situ Jing wasn't like those alphas who would come running at the snap of a finger, nor was he some rich playboy who indulged in hedonism.
He was the head of the Situ Family, a billionaire with status and position firmly established. He had never shown the slightest reaction to any omega who approached him, always elegant, reserved, and possessing astonishing self-control. Because of this, many omegas held romantic fantasies about him, and Xiao Nai was one of them.
Xiao Nai couldn't understand how a beta boy—who only knew how to quietly eat fruit, had no social awareness, didn't know the first thing about rolling cigarettes, was an unsophisticated speaker, and was merely somewhat fair-skinned—could be kept by Situ Jing’s side and even display an intimacy in the private room that he had never seen before.
"You won't last long with Mr. Situ. Men get tired of the same face for too long, especially since you're just a beta without even any pheromones!" With those words, Xiao Nai turned and left.
This statement actually made Bai Yu feel somewhat relieved, like it was a blessing.
The magic show continued, with the magician having a beautiful woman climb into a water-filled box and covering it with a black cloth.
Meanwhile, three or five alphas entered the club through the main door. The man leading them wore wire-rimmed glasses, appeared cultured and polite, and was dressed in a suit. However, on the webbing between his thumb and index finger on his right hand was a tattoo of a scorpion with its tail raised.
Others referred to him as "Boss Zhao," with the full name Zhao Yanting. He is the owner of Taihua Entertainment Company, and his business dealings often created friction with Chen Xun's, leading to a longstanding tension between them.
Normally, the club manager would keep these two apart to avoid any encounters. But today, Zhao Yanting arrived unannounced without a reservation, so the manager quickly instructed the servers to escort Zhao Yanting and his group to a VIP room.
Zhao Yanting hadn't paid much attention to who else was at the club that night, but he happened to glance, by chance, toward the performance area and noticed a fair-complexioned young man standing next to the club’s star performer, Xiao Nai.
The young man was wearing a slightly retro-style tie-front shirt with ruffles, the hem tucked into his trousers, accentuating his slender waist and shapely hips.
He was intently watching the magic show, while Xiao Nai spoke to him with a disdainful look. Seeing no reaction, Xiao Nai tossed his head and walked away.
Zhao Yanting’s gaze lingered on the young man, growing more and more intrigued. His steps slowed. "Is he new here?"
This high-end club had a fixed recruitment season, and it wasn't time for new hires yet. The club manager felt a twinge of unease and glanced in the direction Zhao Yanting was pointing, only to realize it was someone brought by Situ Jing.
The manager hesitated for a moment before replying respectfully, "Boss Zhao, he's not one of our staff. He's a guest's plus-one."
"Oh. I thought he might be a newcomer here, a pity case."
The manager wondered if he was mistaken—Zhao Yanting didn't seem to lose interest. If anything, he appeared even more intrigued.
As the magic show ended, Bai Yu thought it was about time to head back. Staying out any longer would be inappropriate. Just as he was about to return to the VIP room, a man in a striped suit approached him.
"Care for a cocktail?"
Bai Yu glanced at him, suspecting the man mistook him for a club server and was asking him to fetch a drink. "Sorry, I'm not a server here."
The man smiled, studying Bai Yu’s tea-brown cat-like eyes through his glasses. "I'm offering to buy you a drink, not asking you to get one for me."
"Ah?" Bai Yu was slightly flustered. "Thank you for your kindness, but I don't drink."
"My name is Zhao Yanting."
"Oh."
Seeing that Bai Yu showed no recognition of his name, Zhao Yanting took a step closer. "You've never heard of me?"
"No, but since you're at this club, I assume you're probably somebody important."
"What's your name?"
Bai Yu was puzzled. Was this man trying to make his move, mistaking him for an omega available for temporary marking? It would be best to return to the VIP room soon.
"Mr. Zhao, I'm a beta." Bai Yu glanced toward the VIP room. "I should be going."
Zhao Yanting had thought that, as a beta, Bai Yu would seize the chance to get close to him. But the young man seemed completely unaware of his status and showed no interest in the conversation. The flicker of interest Zhao Yanting had felt earlier faded like a half-burned newspaper, leaving only scattered traces. He was about to let it go.
Just then, Mu Qingkong strode in through the club’s entrance, his curly hair bouncing. Dressed in a shiny V-neck long T-shirt and tapered pants, he looked like a prancing show poodle.
Seeing Mu Qingkong approach, Bai Yu darted his eyes, looking for a place to hide. But the area was open, and the potted plants were too short to provide cover. So he turned to Zhao Yanting, who was about to walk away. Despite Zhao Yanting not being as tall as Situ Jing, he was still enough to shield him.
In a flash, Bai Yu blurted out, "Mr. Zhao, did you know plants can understand human speech?"
He had no idea how the other would react, but as long as he could engage Zhao Yanting in conversation and avoid Mu Qingkong, that would be enough.
Zhao Yanting turned back, his interest piqued. "How so?"
Bai Yu walked over to a beautiful pink and white phalaenopsis orchid arrangement nearby, and Zhao Yanting followed.
They stood with their backs to the hallway, Zhao Yanting’s figure effectively blocking Bai Yu from view.
Mu Qingkong, led by a server, hurried past behind Zhao Yanting. Just as he was about to pass by, he glanced in Bai Yu’s direction.
Bai Yu quickly turned sideways and overheard Mu Qingkong say to the server, "The display flowers you have here are so cheap and gaudy. My uncle pays such high yearly membership fees, and you can't even bother to change the potted plants?"
Mu Qingkong continued toward Situ Jing’s VIP room, sleeves fluttering, without noticing anything else.
A thought sprang up in Bai Yu’s mind—Mu Qingkong and Situ Jing deserved each other. One was two-faced, the other nasty.
If his omega pheromones could bring Situ Jing some comfort, and the two spent the night here, maybe Situ Jing would finally kick him out. That would be perfect.
