Chapter 97
Seeing Someone Who Shouldn’t Be Seen
The matters here were left to Lin Nannan to handle, while Lu Fang and Jiang Qianqian went to the hospital to take care of Zhang Xiaofeng. Lu Ming stayed behind to assist Lin Nannan.
After learning the details of the incident, Zhang Shengguo and the others were both shocked and filled with lingering fear.
"Thank heavens you were sharp. Otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable." The thought of Lu Hang nearly being killed right under their noses filled Zhang Shengguo with rage. These guys were way too bold—completely out of control.
Lin Nannan didn’t take credit for herself but explained, "It was all thanks to Qianqian sensing something off about Feng Wu. That guy was broke, then suddenly had cash to throw around—clearly dirty money. That’s why I turned back immediately."
Zhang Shengguo nodded, gave A Zhang some instructions, then said to Lin Nannan, "Don’t sweat it. Whoever’s tied up in this, we’re not letting them off."
Seeing A Zhang leave with his men, Lin Nannan knew Feng Wu was screwed.
Whether caught outside or at school, he wouldn’t be able to stay, meaning he wouldn’t harass Qianqian’s studies anymore. More importantly, if anything substantial was uncovered—well, he’d be done for.
Getting busted in his prime, whether he was deceived or acted willingly, the outcome wouldn’t be good.
She figured Qianqian would love to see this go down. Guys like that don’t deserve pity.
"Commander," Lu Hang spoke up after Lin Nannan finished, addressing Zhang Shengguo. "They were gunning for me, no question. They didn’t indiscriminately kill others at the guesthouse, so why go after her? She didn’t provoke them at all. Even if she saw their faces, plenty of others must have along the way. If I’m not mistaken, these were stone-cold killers—they wouldn’t care about being seen..."
Zhang Shengguo snapped out of it, smelling a rat. Frowning, he asked, "What are you thinking?"
Lu Hang didn’t answer but looked at Lin Nannan, waiting for her response.
Lin Nannan didn’t beat around the bush and shared her earlier speculation. "I think she was silenced because she saw someone she shouldn’t have."
"Someone she shouldn’t have seen?" Zhang Shengguo was slow on the uptake.
"For example, someone who shouldn’t have been there, or someone who had appeared before... maybe even someone who was with us earlier but later joined those criminals..." Lin Nannan’s implication was clear—she might as well have said there’s a rat among them.
Realization hit Zhang Shengguo, his face going ice-cold with rage.
"Commander, why not have someone investigate who was spotted nearby earlier? Cross-reference with the people A Zhang and the others brought here—we might get a nasty shock." Lin Nannan suggested bluntly.
Her words made Zhang Shengguo’s face turn even grimmer.
He knew how close A Zhang and the others were to Lu Hang. He had never doubted them, so Lin Nannan’s insinuation left a bitter taste in his mouth.
"They didn’t know what mission A Hang was on..." he half-heartedly pushed back.
Lin Nannan brushed him off with a scoff. "If it were me, and I wanted to observe someone closely, I’d piece together their every move—from the dirt on their shoes, the scent on their clothes... So if someone wants you dead, do you really think they can’t uncover secrets?"
That hit Zhang Shengguo like a gut punch. This was way beyond anything they’d thought of.
Lu Hang was also surprised. While he might do the same when surveilling someone, it was subconscious—he’d never spell it out.
