Chapter 45
Got a Problem?
Lu Hang was stumped. His earlier teasing had been spur-of-the-moment, not carefully thought out.
But under her hopeful stare, he couldn’t bring himself to refuse. Instead, he changed the subject. "If you don’t like the noise, just tell Lu Ming to take the kids outside to play. Just say I said so."
Lu Ming: When there’s trouble, they call him. When things are fine, he’s forgotten!
"It’s not that bad. I’m still adjusting..." She truly had no experience with children and felt a bit out of place. "Don’t worry, I—" Before she could finish, the shrill voice of Second Aunt rang out from outside, startling Lin Nannan, who hadn’t been prepared.
"Xiao Li! Are you asking for a spanking? I told you not to bully your brother! Are you deaf?!"
"Xiao Li! A girl like you, rolling around wrestling on the ground—how embarrassing is that?"
"Xiao Li..."
Second Aunt’s loudmouth kept going, every sentence revolving around Xiao Li. Every time she spoke, it was about how Xiao Li did this or that, fueling Lin Nannan’s anger until her fists clenched.
It wasn’t just Lin Nannan—even Lu Hang felt uncomfortable. Seeing her clenched fists, he was afraid she’d charge out and punch Second Aunt, so he quickly tried to calm her. "Tell Grandma that Second Aunt is disturbing me. Let Grandma handle it!"
Lin Nannan stared at him for a long moment before snorting coldly. "What’s the point of telling Grandma? She’ll give a half-hearted scolding. Will Second Aunt change? Even if she behaves a little better here, what about at home? She’ll still yell at Xiao Li as if the girl committed some unforgivable crime. It’s infuriating to listen to!"
"Then what do you want to do?" he reminded her. "You can’t just beat her up, can you?"
Second Aunt had some favoritism toward boys—he could sense it—but that mindset was influenced by others. Even a beating wouldn’t change it.
Lin Nannan, who genuinely wanted to hit someone, clenched her jaw and muttered, "I won’t hit her, but I’ll scold her. Let her get a taste of her own medicine!"
Lu Hang felt this was gonna blow up. Unfortunately, he couldn’t stop Lin Nannan.
Just when he thought, given her temper, she’d make a scene, the outside remained relatively calm aside from Second Aunt’s occasional outbursts. It seemed Lin Nannan’s earlier words were just talk—until dinner.
Lin Nannan noticed a few unfamiliar dishes on the table and casually asked about them. Upon learning they were made by Second Aunt, she took a bite and immediately complained, "This is so bland. No flavor at all. It’s not good. Grandma’s meat dish is much better!"
The whole table fell silent, everyone’s gaze involuntarily landing on Lin Nannan, puzzled by her remark.
"Maybe it’s under-seasoned. Try something else," Zhang Xiaofeng quickly said, moving the dish aside to ease the awkwardness.
Lu Lin watched, hesitating to speak, but ultimately held back after remembering something.
Everyone thought the matter was over, but then Lin Nannan proceeded to trash every dish Second Aunt had made—too bland, too salty—her tone egging her on, making it clear she was doing it on purpose.
Grandma Lu kept holding Lu Lin back, stopping her from losing her temper. No one understood why Lin Nannan was targeting Lu Lin, but no one wanted the situation to escalate—until Lu Lin finally blew up and shot back, "Nan Nan, what’s your problem with me, your Second Aunt?"
