Chapter 36
One Big Happy Family
Lin Qingqing was stunned, never expecting her grandma to regret not marrying off the crippled man, Lu Hang, over these things.
Moreover, even if she had married him, that stuff would’ve been hers alone—why should it all go to the Lins?
Lin Qingqing completely forgot how she’d previously coveted Lin Nannan’s belongings, just thinking her grandma was being ridiculous.
Lin Donglai also regretted it now. Had he known folks would still be throwing gifts his way after Lu Hang’s paralysis, he might’ve married Lin Qingqing off to him.
Not only would they have gotten land, but all sorts of good things, plus what the Lu family had given initially. Lin Donglai was *seriously* regretting it now.
"Mom, what’s done is done. What we should think about now is how to milk Lin Nannan for all she’s worth!"
Mentioning this, Old Mrs. Lin felt like a fool, totally played by Lin Nannan without a shred of suspicion, not knowing how much Lin Nannan must have laughed at her in her heart.
Thinking of this, she took a deep breath and gritted her teeth. "Tomorrow morning, we’ll go to the Lu family. Let’s see if Lin Nannan’s got the guts to cross us!"
...
The next day, Lin Nannan woke up early. After taking a stroll in the fields, she returned to squat by the ribs, much to the Lu family’s amusement.
"Sister-in-law, those ribs won’t be ready till noon," Lu Ming asked curiously. "Aren’t you tired squatting like that?"
"Not tired!" If there was food on the line, Lin Nannan could squat *forever*.
The Lu family just ate up her antics, and no one thought there was anything wrong with it.
The rest of the Lu family had gone to the fields, leaving only Lin Nannan squatting by the ribs and Lu Fang, who handled Lu Hang’s morning routine.
The Lus knew Lu Hang had his pride and didn’t want Lin Nannan tending to him, so they let him be. Every morning, Lu Fang finished his tasks before heading to the fields.
When the Lins arrived, they saw Lin Nannan alone in the yard, with a row of meat laid out in front of her. Their eyes lit up like wolves spotting prey.
"Lin Nannan," Lin Xiaoyang lost it, rushing forward and barking, "Give me the meat!"
Looking at the aggressive Lin Xiaoyang, Lin Nannan thought they should’ve named him Lin the Bandit instead.
"This meat’s *ours*." She absolutely wouldn’t allow anyone to take her family’s food.
According to her grandma, these things were given to Lu Hang. Only *family* gets a bite—not even the two married aunts got a share, let alone outsiders.
She wasn’t about to mess with Granny’s rules, nor did she want to give the meat to the Lins.
The racket outside brought Lu Fang out. Seeing the Lins standing in the yard, he frowned and called out, "Donglai, what brings you here so early in the morning?"
He couldn’t stand the Lins’ nonsense and didn’t want to engage with them. Knowing Lin Nannan had no affection for them, his tone was distant. Anyone with *half* a shred of decency would’ve bolted.
But the Lins? No shame *whatsoever*.
"We came to see Nan Nan and A Hang. After all, Nan Nan didn’t return home for the bridal visit!" Lin Donglai said with a well-rehearsed, ‘harmless’ smile.
Lin Nannan wasn’t familiar with all the customs, but she knew what a bridal visit meant. She scowled, "Back then, it was agreed that by replacing Lin Qingqing to marry Lu Hang, I’d cut all ties with the Lins. Have you forgotten already?"
Lin Donglai wasn’t angered. Still smiling, he looked at her like she was some brat having a meltdown, his expression full of indulgence.
"You don’t just *dump* family, right, A Fang?" After replying, he turned to Lu Fang.
