Chapter 32: Partner Responsibility
Headquarters of the Military Medical Center.
"Congratulations, General Landis. Your current mental energy sea condition is much better than during the previous examination. Both abnormal fluctuations and the frequency of inhibitor use have notably decreased. Although the overall values remain in a high-risk zone, the peak values have dropped, which is encouraging."
Doctor Sommerk said with a kind smile as he handed the latest mental energy sea report to Landis. "It seems that your marriage is a happy one. Having a 100% compatible partner makes a significant difference."
Landis rarely cracked a smile. "You are aware of my partner's condition. If we were to engage in deep bonding now, what are the risks of infection and assimilation?"
Doctor Sommerk looked at him in surprise. As far as he could recall, it had been quite some time since the General married, and they hadn't engaged in deep bonding yet. How had his partner succeeded in lowering his abnormal peak values?
The doctor said meaningfully, "The issue of assimilation with a senior military officer's partner is a frequently discussed topic. Most cases of irreversible severe situations occur due to long-term, high-frequency, uncontrolled deep bonding. As long as you exercise moderation, especially regarding your partner's feelings, the risk is within a controllable range."
The doctor winked at him and said, "After all, such things require both physical and emotional pleasure. The military often sees partner divorces, mostly among senior officers, usually because they are insensitive to their partners and treat them as consumables."
Landis understood the doctor's implicit warning and nodded solemnly. "I will be mindful."
Outside, his deputy, Caro, was waiting. Seeing his superior come out with a flushed face, he approached and glanced at the report in his hand, teasing, "How is it, sir? Looks like the results are good."
Landis glanced at him and nodded slightly. "Hmm."
Caro pushed his glasses. "See, who was it that vehemently refused to go on a blind date? As I suspected? Even the subordinates are saying that since you got married, you have been less severe with your temper."
Landis sneered. "It seems you've had some free time. I think it's time to increase the training load."
That they would gossip about him.
Caro immediately regretted his words. "Please not that, sir."
Just as Landis was about to respond, a sharp alarm sounded in the corridor, and red warning lights began to flash. Both of their comm devices received an emergency message.
Caro exclaimed in shock, "Central Star is suddenly being attacked by alien forces? How did alien forces penetrate the frontline defenses to reach here?"
Landis' brows furrowed deeply as he quickly folded the report and put it in his pocket, striding ahead.
He said gravely, "Central Star has never experienced an alien presence before. This is very strange. Order the nearby garrison officers to cancel their leave, dispatch the security team to the scene immediately, and put all military regions on emergency alert!"
Caro responded seriously, "Yes, sir."
Landis readjusted the military cap he had been holding under his arm and swiftly issued a series of commands in the command channel of his holographic brain, before boarding a flight vehicle to head towards the designated coordinates.
By the time he arrived at the scene, the advance troops had already engaged in intense combat with the suddenly appearing alien forces.
Landis's flight vehicle landed on the airborne warship. He hurried to the command room, where several staff officers had already presented reports detailing the sequence of events and the current situation.
In the center of the command room stood a large holographic projection, broadcasting the battlefield situation live from all angles.
Landis quickly skimmed through the report and looked up to survey the battlefield.
In the sky above, dense alien forces were embroiled in a fierce battle with the mecha warriors who had come to exterminate them, locked in a jagged stalemate on the chaotic battlefield.
The alien forces were neither human nor beast, but alien beings. They had torsos, heads, arms and legs, and beast-like tails, fangs, and sharp teeth.
They had no skin tissue or facial features. Their bluish-green flesh was supported by hard bones, and their physical strength alone was enough to match mechs. Their jagged teeth were easily capable of piercing through hardened alloy armor.
Most terrifyingly, they had extraordinary psychic energy. Their frenzied, savage aura would continuously erode the mental energy sea of soldiers engaged in combat with them.
With every bite, they grew stronger, and even if they were ultimately killed, their malicious mental aura would remain like seeds planted in the soldiers' mental energy sea, growing and spreading amidst pressure, pain, confusion, sorrow, and other negative emotions.
They were also extremely difficult to kill using physical attacks like high-energy particle cannons alone; only mental entity attacks were their nemesis.
As Landis inspected the battlefield, a powerful alien being was tightly gripping the arm of a mecha. Its strong flesh endured the impact of other mecha's particle cannons, forcibly breaking its prey in half and pulling the soldier out of the cockpit.
Amidst the terrified screams, it bit off half of the soldier's body, warm and glaring blood flowing from between its sharp teeth. The creature roared, threw away the remaining half, and immediately charged towards another mecha.
In the command room, the staff officers watching this cruel scene were grim and silent.
Landis furrowed his brows. "Can anyone tell me how the alien forces managed to penetrate the atmosphere? Why didn't the space alert station issue any warnings? How did they suddenly appear inside the atmosphere?"
Since the founding of the Dawn Empire, it was the first time alien forces had silently appeared above Central Star. This was an extreme provocation and a severe failure for the military.
A staff officer replied, "The alert records from the space station indicate that the warning system was experiencing a temporary failure and was under repair today."
A strong sense of unease arose in Landis from this coincidence.
He put the issue aside for the moment and asked, "Have the legions from nearby military districts been mobilized? How soon will they arrive?"
"The nearest garrison has already joined the battle, but due to the suddenness of the incident and the overwhelming number of alien forces, although our military strength is increasing, the casualties remain very heavy."
The elite forces dealing with the alien forces are mostly stationed at frontline bases several galaxies away. For now, we can only try to recall the nearby legions, but it will still take some time for them to return.
Due to the fact that the frontlines against the alien forces are very far from Central Star, the garrison at Central Star only has a routine number of troops.
Caro hurriedly arrived and reported, "Sir, the main reinforcement army has communicated that they will arrive within an hour at most."
"I understand," Landis said, gazing at the battlefield with a grave expression.
A powerful lord-level leader alien force, which would require the elite legions' full attention even on the frontlines, suddenly appeared in the midst of the battle.
Now was not the time to investigate the cause. Taking in the overall battlefield, Landis calmly deployed his limited forces, trying to separate the clusters of alien forces and push them towards space.
Below were densely populated lands and cities, among which were the capital and the palace. Even if a single alien force reached the city, the disaster could be devastating. No one knew how many ordinary families would be torn apart because of this.
Under Landis's calm and rhythmic command, the soldiers managed to hold back the alien forces' advance, not allowing them to move forward even a single step.
Just as the situation gradually stabilized, an urgent distress signal suddenly came from the flank, and the holographic projection immediately shifted its focus to the flank.
An alien force of ordinary size, after devouring several soldiers and their mental entities, suddenly erupted. Its flesh and blood surged and rapidly grew new limbs, becoming stronger than before.
An officer exclaimed, "It's evolving on the battlefield!"
Landis's expression turned grave. This was an exceedingly rare occurrence. Alien forces' evolution was very difficult; even if they consumed enough psychic energy, a long conversion process was still needed.
An alien force with such innate ability had to be eliminated while it was still vulnerable; otherwise, once it grew, it would become a nightmare for countless soldiers on the battlefield.
Landis decisively said, "Deploy the nearby A-rank, no, double-A rank and above officers to encircle and destroy it."
Caro immediately reported back, "The double-A rank officers are currently being held up by that lord-level alien force. Let me go."
Landis shook his head. "At least three double-A rank officers would be needed. Going alone would be too dangerous for you."
With resolve, Landis said, "You stay here to coordinate. I'll go deal with it, swift and decisive. I'll be back within 20 minutes. Keep the line open."
No one questioned his decision. All the subordinates and soldiers were accustomed to their general's unwavering authority. When Landis gave his word, it was as good as law.
He was not just the commander here; he was the stabilizing force of the Third Legion, and also the strongest S-rank 'Imperial Sword' on the battlefield.
Landis swiftly changed into his combat suit and entered his personal mech.
The black-gold mech that Xiao Sa had seen before emitted two long, light blue streams and rushed into the battlefield at breakneck speed, heading straight for the newly evolved alien lord.
"All officers and soldiers below A-rank, retreat immediately," came Landis's icy command over the command channel.
Just as the alien was dismantling a mech, its head suddenly twisted 180 degrees, deftly avoiding a vicious quantum beam cannon shot.
Landis's signature particle blade sliced through the air, closely following the beam cannon shot.
The alien roared and dropped the mech, charging towards Landis's black-gold mech. It could sense that this mech contained a feast far richer than all other prey combined.
Landis let out a low, cold chuckle as he alternated between medium-range beam cannons and particle blades, bombarding the alien until it was forced to retreat. The alien's muscles, knotted with veins, were riddled with large holes that its rapidly moving flesh quickly sealed.
The enraged alien let out a roar that echoed across the battlefield and opened its blood-soaked maw, vomiting a large mass of red-black flesh.
A thick, black gas emanated from its body, spreading rapidly with a great stench and a chilling presence.
An invisible psychic energy field enveloped the battlefield where Landis was, and like a tightly meshed gear being jammed by a pair of pliers, all the mechs in the vicinity felt their psychic energy slow and falter, their attacks slowing down.
Feelings of agitation, anxiety, and fear—intangible negative emotions—wildly drilled into their mental sea. Lower-ranked soldiers were already experiencing ear-ringing and heart palpitations, their mental entities starting to howl uncontrollably.
Fortunately, they had followed Landis's earlier command to stay away from the area, greatly reducing the peripheral impact, but they could still feel the mental chaos.
Meanwhile, Landis, at the center of the vortex, was facing the most terrifying pressure.
His movements remained precise and unyielding, like a cold, emotionless killing machine, calmly calculating the alien's weaknesses and attack habits, then countering them with precision.
His particle blade moved so quickly it was impenetrable, continuously shredding the alien in front of him into pieces, only for the alien to painfully reform.
A blade of light suddenly sliced off one of the monster's hands, and in the middle, something golden seemed to fall out.
Inside the cockpit, Landis's eyes narrowed, and he reached out and grabbed the golden object. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a corroded Medal of Honor.
The emblem engraved on it belonged to the Dawn Empire's Third Legion, and the name of the soldier who had earned the medal was faintly visible on the back—a former subordinate officer who had served under Landis.
Landis flew into a rage, his icy blue pupils burning with fury, his expression growing even colder and more composed and resolute.
He slammed the control stick forward, unleashing full weaponry!
The alien was immediately overwhelmed by Landis, on the verge of collapse, when a sharp shriek echoed throughout the area.
Landis suddenly had a premonition of danger. A large black lion appeared behind him, transforming into a blazing black flame that enveloped the mech, distorting and warping the surrounding air with searing energy.
Clang! The black flame's particle blade collided with the massive claw swiping from behind, emitting a harsh, discordant noise.
Unexpectedly, the other alien lord, who had been besieged by other AA officers, had shaken them off and was now charging straight toward Landis, sandwiching him between the two alien lords.
The thick, viscous contaminated field, like a viscous abyss, enveloped this part of the battlefield, making it almost impossible for those outside to see what was happening within.
In the command room of the warship, everyone watched the pitch-black holographic projection with grave expressions.
Caro broke out in a cold sweat. This is bad; the general is surrounded!
A staff officer asked, "Should we send reinforcements to support General Landis?"
After a fierce internal conflict, Caro decisively refused. "No, the battle situation is tight everywhere right now, and we don't have any spare troops. Besides, with two alien lords, sending lower-ranking officers would just be throwing them into the meat grinder. The communication channel hasn't been cut off; we must have faith in the general."
"Dispatch only three AA officers to the outer perimeter to support the general. Everyone else, seize the opportunity of the moment when the leaders have been lured away to launch a counterattack. We must push the frontline out into space!"
Amidst the thick black fog, Landis' black-gold mech, like a blazing lion, single-handedly held off the two alien lords without losing ground.
The flames surrounding him made him look like a war god descended from the heavens, capable of vanquishing all contamination and malevolence. The thick black fog, once it touched the flames, was largely incinerated and turned to ash, scattering in the air.
A painful howl of the alien lord came from within the black fog. Twenty minutes later, the contaminated fog was blasted open by a light-speed cannon, creating a massive opening!
Landis' black-gold mech burst out, covered in writhing alien flesh, resembling a demon ascending from the depths of hell.
The nearby warriors erupted in cheers. They knew that the undefeated general had won again.
Landis' stoic face appeared on the command screen. "The contamination here is extremely severe. Immediately send a fully equipped professional decontamination team to handle it. Everyone else, keep as far away from this battlefield as possible. No one below A-rank is allowed to approach here."
Without him saying so, anyone could see the distorted contaminated fog. Just one more glance and it would make you vomit your last meal.
Caro stared intently at Landis' face, frowned, and immediately ordered, "Go get three vials of high-grade antidotes."
Then he looked back at Landis. "Sir, please come back. The reinforcement legion is about to arrive. Let the reinforcements handle the alien cleanup. Our contaminated soldiers need to withdraw for treatment, and so do you."
Landis shook his head in refusal. "No, I can't return to the warship yet. I have to wait until the decontamination team arrives to remove the contamination from my body."
Caro felt anxious in his heart, but he couldn't disobey Landis's command. He knew that Landis's orders were always the most rational choices.
At his current state, every minute of delay in injecting the inhibitor would double the risk of another violent outbreak.
Just as the cleanup team was rushing to the battlefield at top speed, another sudden change occurred.
Landis was followed by two AA-rank officers, Olair and Moen, both of whom had been with him for several years, the longest-serving deputies aside from Caro.
Just as the cleanup team was approaching to deal with them, one of the deputies, Moen, suddenly raised a beam cannon and attacked a soldier from the cleanup team!
The cannon blasted a large hole in the soldier's cockpit, leaving the soldier's condition unknown.
This sudden incident shocked everyone present. Landis suddenly turned around and shouted orders, “Cleanup team, fall back, don't come any closer!”
He then lunged towards the deputy who had become violent.
Landis and the other deputy, Olair, flanked Moen, trying to restrain him without causing injury.
Both of their mecha arms simultaneously ejected inhibitor guns—the inhibitor system within Moen's cockpit had likely completely malfunctioned.
But Moen's condition was far worse than they had anticipated. A bull, exuding a violent aura, emerged beside them, snorting heavily with blood-red eyes.
The sharp horns of the bull knocked off Olair and Landis's inhibitor guns, then charged at their owner's cockpit.
The thunderous tip of the horn pierced through the cockpit door, instantly tearing a large hole.
Landis's expression darkened, and he quickly saw a grey, scaled monster arm extending from the broken cockpit, whose sharp nails scraped against the mecha's metal edge, emitting a harsh sound.
From the shadows, his former deputy Moen crawled out of the cockpit hole.
His military uniform had been torn apart by swollen flesh, his limbs were swollen like those of a demon, and his skin had cracked like parched earth, with two hollow eyes hanging in their sockets as if they were about to fall out at any moment.
The terrifying sight caused everyone present, as well as those in the warship's command room, to draw a sharp breath in horror.
“Moen!” Landis felt as though his heart had sunk to the depths of an abyss.
He took a deep breath, struggling to keep his voice steady and cold, giving an unyielding command, “Hold on, Caro is bringing the inhibitors over. We'll send you to the military sanatorium, where professional medical healers will help you recover.”
“You are the excellent officer Moen of the Dawn Empire's Third Legion. I am your superior, Landis Wencer, do you hear me? I'm ordering you, do not lose control!”
"Ahh, it hurts..." Moen, most of whose body had mutated, let out a hoarse hiss from his throat, "So painful... Sir, help me! I don't want to become a monster!"
Across from him, Auriel gripped the control stick tightly, veins bulging on his hands, watching his once closest companion in pain. "Just hold on, Moen. We will save you. Please don't hurt yourself."
"Calm down, don't let that thing control your mind!"
"I can't control it anymore... I don't want to harm you..." Moen's sharp nails scratched his face into a bloody mess, using the pain to maintain the last trace of consciousness. "Auriel, kill me! Let me die as a soldier!"
His voice trembled and twisted, his vocal cords beginning to mutate as well.
With his last bit of strength, Moen controlled his grotesque hand to remove a Medal of Honor from his chest—a reward for killing a lord-level alien in a past war, a feat that almost cost him his life.
He forcefully threw the medal to his close companion, his mutated throat letting out a painful wail, "Take me away—"
"No..." Auriel's nose stung and his throat quivered as his trembling fingers hovered over the beam cannon's fire button, feeling as if it weighed a thousand pounds. Faced with his former comrade, he couldn't bring himself to kill him.
Almost simultaneously, Caro arrived in his mech with the suppressor, holding a modified suppressor gun. It was not uncommon for low-ranking soldiers to suddenly mutate on the battlefield. Generally, it was the job of specialized cleanup forces to subdue them and send the mutated soldiers to a rehabilitation center for treatment.
However, Moen was a double A-grade officer, and it was extremely rare for an officer of his rank to mutate directly on the battlefield. An average person would have no chance against him.
Landis immediately ordered, "Caro, fire quickly!"
Without a word, Caro raised the suppressor gun and fired two shots at Moen, precisely hitting his shoulder and thigh. Unfortunately, given the extent of his mutation, the shots didn't take effect immediately.
In the blink of an eye, Moen's mental entity suddenly erupted, completely out of control, and lunged at himself, biting down on one of his arms. The warm, fresh blood stimulated him once again.
Moen roared, pulling out the syringe from his body, his flesh expanding again. The hoarse sound from his throat could no longer form words, but both Landis and Auriel faintly heard, "Please kill me."
All their hearts sank.
While Auriel hesitated, the fully mutated Moen had completely lost his human consciousness and lunged wildly at him, the closest target!
In the nick of time, a particle blade tinged with black flames sliced through, warm fresh blood splattering. A head, with a look of relief, flew into the air, only to be caught by a cold, metallic black mech arm.
Under the shocked and extremely tense gaze of everyone, Landis's black and gold mech held the remains of the decapitated corpse in one hand, while the other gripped the blade upright.
The cold, metallic mech was stained with the fresh blood of a comrade and the twitching, writhing flesh of the mutated.
The surroundings were deathly silent; not a sound could be heard.
Only Orel, biting his teeth to hold back a sob, had his muffled cries pierce through the channel, piercing the hearts of many.
After a long while, Landis's icy calm voice echoed through the command channel again: "Get the cleanup team over here."
With the arrival of the reinforcements, the leaderless alien creatures quickly retreated under the overwhelming offensive and were completely annihilated.
The aftermath operations were carried out methodically and in silence.
Inside the warship's medical chamber, Landis sat in a solitary sofa, silently injecting a dose of the inhibitor into his arm. There were two empty tubes beside him.
After returning to the warship, Landis continued to oversee the remaining tasks but also secluded himself in the medical chamber without uttering a single word.
Caro, who was by his side, watched his heaving chest and his ice-blue eyes that carried no emotion, feeling an uncontrollable sense of fear.
"Are you alright, sir?" Caro asked, frowning at the sight of Landis taking three consecutive doses of the inhibitor.
"I'm fine," Landis said, pinching the bridge of his nose and shaking his head slightly.
Caro sighed inwardly. "I'll contact a spiritual healer. You should go rest. The Second Legion will take over the follow-up battlefield cleanup."
Landis closed his eyes deeply and remained silent, reclining in the sofa chair.
※※※
Capital Mech Academy, Mech Training Base.
The usually cold and quiet VIP training room had recently become bustling. Xiao Sa was conducting intense mech training with the other students of Class A.
After completing a round of physical training, Kaman and the others sprawled on the floor in a starfish position while Xiao Sa checked his optical brain.
Feng Yu, with his arms crossed and looking down on them, sneered. "Are you all done after just this little bit of training? Where's your ambition and grand aspirations?"
Whenever Feng Yu mocked them, Kaman would flare up in anger. He jumped up from the floor. "Who said we can't go on? I can keep fighting for twenty-four hours!"
Xiao Sa walked into the adjacent rest room and opened the emergency communication on his optical computer. "Landis, what's the matter?"
Before he could finish speaking, it wasn't Landis' face that appeared, but Caro's anxious expression.
"Is it Xiao Sa? Please come back immediately. The lord's condition isn't well."
Xiao Sa was taken aback, a sharp premonition rising in his mind as he furrowed his brow.
"What happened?" he asked, hurrying out of the rest room, greeting Kaman and the others, then grabbing his coat and rushing outside.
Caro's anxiety could not be hidden. "We received an emergency mission today, to exterminate a sudden appearance of alien creatures, but the lord..."
He faltered. "The lord has suffered severe mental contamination. As you probably know, his mental sea hasn't been in good condition for a long time. It had only recently stabilized a little. But today, he suffered a major setback again."
"I've already contacted the spiritual healer to examine him, but the lord sent him away. I know this might be dangerous for you, but as his companion, could you help persuade him?"
Xiao Sa's expression became grave, his eyes narrowing slightly as he calmly replied, "I understand. I'll return at once."
The aircraft landed on the helipad of the Wenser Estate.
Xiao Sa threw open the doors to the main hall, where the key members of the Wenser family were gathered. The atmosphere was heavy and silent, their expressions indicating they had just been through a fierce argument.
As Xiao Sa returned, all eyes were on him. Some sighed in relief, some looked mocking, and others remained indifferent.
"Landis, where is he?" Xiao Sa asked, glancing around with a frown.
Caro came forward. "The lord locked himself in his room, not allowing anyone to approach him. He seemed fine when he returned. But for some reason, his situation suddenly worsened."
"Enough, you shouldn't get involved in this. We've already summoned a senior spiritual healer to treat Landis. As a C-rank individual, even if we let you in, it would just be risking your life for nothing."
The one speaking was Landis' uncle, Claire, who looked at Xiao Sa disapprovingly and shook his head. Although he disliked this young man, who had a share in the family's power dynamics, as a relative, he couldn't help but offer a word of caution.
Sitting next to him was an elegantly dressed woman, someone Xiao Sa had rarely seen before. This was Landis' stepmother, the noble Lady Rona from the Packers family.
She examined Xiao Sa with a contemptuous look. "It's been a long time since you were married, and yet you still haven't been able to calm Landis, which has led to today's situation. Do you deserve the marriage agreement you signed with him?"
"If something really happens to Landis, we will never recognize you as part of the family."
Xiao Sa looked at these people with a look of indifference. At a time like this, his stepmother was still concerned about the marriage agreements. Indeed, since he wasn't her real son, she felt no genuine concern for him.
Xiao Sa's gentleness and good temper weren't meant for these selfish people. His gaze was cold and composed. "You should pray that Landis is fine, or else you parasites who rely on him will be left out on the streets."
"You!"
Ignoring the enraged Lady Rona, he headed upstairs to find Landis.
Caro hurriedly followed him behind. "Mr. Xiao Sa, I must remind you that Landis has locked himself in the room, and no one is allowed to approach him. When he returned, he appeared fine. But for some reason, his condition suddenly worsened."
There was another thing Caro chose not to mention.
Before, he had already summoned a spiritual healer to treat Landis, but it hadn't worked. Now, the Wenser family had summoned another one.
If this still didn't work, the only effective solution left would be a deep spiritual bonding with his partner. But given Landis' current condition and Xiao Sa's C-rank disabled body, going up there would be like throwing himself into the tiger's den, with a real risk to his life. There is even a risk to his life.
"Thank you for the reminder." Xiao Sa nodded at him and continued up the stairs without stopping.
Just as the group arrived at the door of the main suite, a disheveled figure suddenly stumbled out. To everyone's surprise, it was the spiritual healer whom Claire had summoned.
His face was filled with terror, and his clothes were torn in several places, especially his chest, which bore a few claw marks.
A chill went down everyone's spine. Indeed, the worst had happened.
"I'm sorry, head of the family, but I really can't do anything about it!" he said before fleeing as if fleeing for his life. "You need to immediately summon the security forces to take him to the special military facility for mutated soldiers!"
Caro's expression darkened. Though he was reluctant, this was indeed the protocol for senior military officers showing signs of mutation.
As a high-ranking S-class officer, if Landis were to truly mutate, his lethality would be vastly greater than that of ordinary soldiers and officers.
The rest of his life would be spent in the special military facility for mutated soldiers, essentially a life sentence, assuming he survived.
Caro sighed, about to speak, when he suddenly met Xiao Sa's serious gaze.
Xiao Sa's eyes were steady and determined, and his deep voice exuded determination: "I am Landis's companion, and I am responsible for everything about him. Without my permission, no one will take him away."
As he spoke, he reached out to open the bedroom door, but it was locked from the inside.
From inside the room, a restrained and painful roar came from Landis: "Caro, who told you to bring Xiao Sa?! Take him away! No one is allowed in! I order you to take him away immediately!"
Xiao Sa breathed a sigh of relief that Landis was still rational.
His greatest fear was that Landis would return to the berserk state from their first encounter.
Caro hesitated for a moment, looking at Xiao Sa, his instincts almost compelling him to obey his superior's order: "Mr. Xiao Sa, you should probably leave for now. The captain's condition might hurt you. Dr. Sommerk will be here soon, he's a doctor that the captain trusts. There might be other ways to treat him."
Xiao Sa remained unmoved, only frowning: "Landis, I'm not your subordinate; you can't give me orders. When are you going to stop making decisions for others?"
When he saw he couldn't open the door, he simply punched it!
To Caro's astonishment, Xiao Sa punched a hole through the solid wooden door.
Xiao Sa reached inside and unlocked the door.
"Landis can't hurt me; I'll make him better," Xiao Sa said calmly and stepped into the bedroom.
Before closing the door, he stuck his head out: "Make sure to fix the door. Landis doesn't like people eavesdropping."
With a loud bang, the door closed again.
Nearby in the corridor, Carle and his stepmother, who didn't dare to approach, felt their scalps tingling at the sight.
Lady Rona frowned, "For the next few days, no one is to come near this floor. Have the attendants bring meals up here every day."
"Ensure the guard team is fully prepared. I hope a normal family head will come out of there. If not, we will have to prepare for the worst. It could be a monster or a pile of flesh and blood."
